Deirdre Hughes - Deirdre Hughes

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Deirdre Hughes moved to Belfast, N. Ireland, where she completed her secondary education, in 1988. She went on to do a BSSc. Hons. in Psychology at Queen's University and, subsequently, a Certificate and Diploma in Counselling.

Having worked as a counsellor within the addiction field for 9 years, she is now pursuing her long-term passion for songwriting (you can hear some of her songs at http://www.reverbnation.com/deedeehughes#) and doing a MSc in Health Psychology with the University of Ulster, which she hopes will inform her writing and enable her to work in a research capacity.

During her years as a counsellor working with young people affected both directly and indirectly by substance misuse, Deirdre has gained considerable knowledge of and experience with a variety of issues ranging from anxiety, anger, depression and low self-esteem to trauma, suicide and self-harm.
